As one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the world, Dr. Boothe has met with thousands of patients and understands that there may be some confusion to what actually occurs during a LASIK procedure. To help answer some of these questions, the Doctor Boothe Eye Care team has put together a short synopsis of the procedure, to help Dallas LASIK patients understand their laser vision correction.
The first step during the LASIK procedure for patients visiting Dr. Boothe Eye Care is the creation of the corneal flap. After numbing the patient’s eyes with anaesthetic drops, Doctor Boothe uses IntraLase technology to create the corneal flap. By creating the flap with a laser and not the traditional steel blade known as a microkeratome, it allows for patients to have “all-laser” or “blade-free” LASIK.
Once the flap is created, Doctor Boothe will gently fold the flap back exposing the cornea. Next, with the use of a cool excimer laser, Dr. Boothe will ablate, or smooth, the cornea’s surface reducing the level of refractive error, which causes patients to need to wear glasses and/or contact lenses. Once the ablation is completed, Dr. Boothe will delicately return the flap to its original position where it will act as a natural bandage for the eye.
Dr. Boothe has performed more than 110,000 LASIK procedures, with a safety record among the best in the industry. To learn more about LASIK surgery and the team at Doctor Boothe Eye Care, please call (214) 328-0444.
